Hi, I am Jens!

I'm a UX Designer
with a passion for data, based in Munich.
I believe that when something is easy to use, it was hard to design. And I would love to take some of the toughest UX challenges your organisation faces and make your life easier. My core skills are usability engineering and user research. I am an expert in the fields of UX design, information visualisation, and design thinking and offer my skills as a freelancer.

My Expertise

User Research

My first passion was user research. After studying a human factors-focused mechanical engineering, I worked intensively in this field as a scientist. Over 8 years I conducted usability research studies, laying the foundation for all my later work. In the design agency, I stepped into the world of applied research, helping clients define and test their hypotheses. In the last three years in a medium-sized company, I have continued conducting studies while also guiding designers and researchers for qualitative and quantitative methods. For example, I wrote an article on Medium about my personal top 3 surveys methods.
Usability Engineering

My deepest expertise is UX design, or usability engineering as I like to call it. At its core, my work revolves around creating interface concepts. I have gained experience across various fields, including medical devices, business software, and consumer electronics working on numerous projects, particularly during my time at an agency. Now at the data science company, I created overarching concepts that set the direction for future developments. In this work, I utilize the full spectrum of UX methods, starting with sketches and digital wireframes. For every question, there is a fitting method - one I either know or am eager to explore. I have even developed my own methods, such as the smartwatch method.
Management

This may sound a bit vague. What I mean are three concrete things: project management, people management, and knowledge management. I am a certified project manager, have practices this throughout my career. People management began at university, where I guided students through their theses. It continued at the agency by leading project teams. And now as experienced UX Designer, I mentor colleagues and educate other teams. The third, knowledge management, started with information visualization, and is still of high relevance, like in the UX strategy I developed, which used a lobster as the central visualisation.
